Wes Buxton, Cyrus Downey, and Lara Wilson, of Momentum3, joined Atlas students over lunch for an illuminating conversation, including practical workforce entry tips and Momentum3’s involvement in local tech.
Hiring at Momentum3 is important for success because, according to Wes Buxton, Founder and Managing Member of Momentim3, “balancing scalability and innovation comes down to the people you hire.”
That being said, Momentum3, as a company, is results-oriented. As a consulting firm, their success depends on meeting client expectations and goals. Team members can expect to work hard and play harder; if you’re providing results at Momentum3 you gain freedom and flexibility, elements that are baked into their culture.
When it comes to hiring, Momentum3 acknowledges the struggles that come with the process.
Buxton referred to the automated application process as ‘inhumane’, stating, “you apply, it goes into a black hole, and you don’t hear anything back.” For that reason, Wes stated, you have to stay relevant. At Momentum3, relevance can be measured by passion and personality.
“Our atmosphere is unique. As a consulting firm, communication is key. One thing we look for is someone who is more outgoing. The ability to communicate without being shy is critical. Applicants should be able to have a casual conversation about whatever a client needs.”
Cyrus Downey, Principal Consultant and Delivery Manager at Momentum3, shared practical interviewing tips that prospective applicants should keep in mind that display passion and personality.
“If you’re able to communicate around technical topics – take one abstract concept and map it to another abstract concept – you will shine in the interview process.”
Downey reaffirmed the importance of communication, stating, “clear, consistent communication will solve so many problems up front.”
To that end, Downey recommended asking questions about the company and current projects, showing passion and curiosity about the company, to stand out in the hiring process.
“Tell a story: who are you and where are you going? How did you get there? What have you done along the way? Of all of the possible tech employers, why did you choose this one?”
Hiring local talent is a priority for Momentum3. Lara Wilson, Marketing Director at Momentum3, shared, “we invest in local talent because we love Tulsa; because hiring local is important for our community.”
All three panel members agreed that they are committed to the tech professionals they hire. Momentum3 makes room for juniors by being ready to equip them with projects that propel professional growth while still matching their current skillset.
Momentum3 is a fast-growing company, excited to take on more local talent. Anyone who is interested in continuing a conversation with Momentum3 should connect with the team by visiting their website www.momentum3.biz.
